FOUR SEASONS DOWNTOWN NEW YORK
Calm Oasis in NYC
In TriBeCa, a short walk from both Greenwich Village and the Financial District, as well as the 9/11 memorial and museum, the Four Seasons Downtown is perfectly located to explore the cute streets and alleyways of lower Manhattan.
The hotel consists of 189 rooms, and occupies most of the lower 24 storeys of an 82-storey building.
In a suitably predictable Four Seasons kind of way, the beds at this hotel are very comfortable and the rooms are well-appointed. Some have views uptown towards Greenwich or downtown towards the Financial District. Ask for a high floor if the view is important to you.
A distinctive feature in the bedrooms is a stylish abundantly equipped mini-bar named “MyBar”, which features several local items in addition to the usual offerings.
-
Well appointed rooms and bathrooms, many with stand alone bathtubs and separate showers. A somewhat unique feature is “MyBar”, a selection of items for purchase which includes local specialities and face treatment products.
Nespresso coffee maker (old style pods) and small milk capsules.
Reliable and fast wifi.

The hotel is let down by its spa facilities. There is a pool which is advertised as “heated”, but which is barely warm.
No jacuzzi / whirlpool.
A steam room is located in each of the changing rooms (not co-ed), but both the steam quantity and temperature were lacking on our visit.
A separate infra-red sauna is available for a fee by pre-arranged booking.

The gym is a bright spot at this property. Its surprisingly large for a New York hotel, and its well-equipped, with a separate adjacent yoga/fitness studio.

Not taken. The one restaurant at this property is outsourced to Wolfgang Puck’s CUT, which provides breakfast, lunch and dinner.

The flat white taken at CUT over lunch was somewhat better than mediocre, but didn’t justify the $14 price tag.
See the review for a local coffee shop suggestion.

The hotel does not have its own restaurant, choosing instead to outsource all dining - day and night - to Wolfgang Puck’s CUT. This of course means that the usually high quality Four Seasons own brand dining and breakfast experience is not available at this property.
While the spa facilities are somewhat disappointing, lacking a Jacuzzi and inclusive sauna (see inset review), the gym is very well-equipped and includes a separate yoga/fitness class studio.
A unique coffee experience is located approximately 10 minutes walk from the hotel - 787 Coffee on Worth Street. An interesting feature, in addition to the distinctive single-origin taste, is that the company owns a coffee farm in Puerto Rico where it grows and processes its beans at 3,000 feet altitude.
Personal Note
As for all Four Seasons properties that we have visited, the staff are friendly and helpful. My arrival was greeted with every effort to get me into a room immediately, despite my unfeasible arrival time of 11am.
Although not deserving a medal, we like this hotel for its excellent location, well-appointed gym and very comfortable beds.
