We strive to provide independent unbiased evaluations of actual stays at the World’s finest hotels, to provide our readers with insights they can use to make well-informed choices

Have you ever visited a 5-star hotel and suspected that its rating might have been exaggerated?
Ever been let down by overly positive professional reviews that seem to have either been written by AI, or by someone that has never actually visited the hotel?
If a hotel is included in The Carey List, we confirm that:
one of our staff members has stayed at the hotel
in our opinion, the hotel is indeed a 5-star property
If we stay in a hotel that self-describes as a 5-star but, in our opinion, falls below the requisite standard, it’s not included in The Carey List.
Reviews
But we go further than this. We provide you with an honest independent review of our experience staying at each of the hotels in The List. This means that you will have access to information that is not available elsewhere, including:
How comfortable is the bed?
Does the air conditioning work well? How loud is it?
What’s the breakfast like?
Is the temperature in the sauna hot enough to be worthy of its name?
Is there a steam room, and if so, does it actually feature steam?
Are there coffee machines in the rooms, and what type of pods do they take?
If coffee is your thing, as it most definitely is ours, you might have been frustrated that a high-end hotel with excellent facilities seems to be skimping on the quality of its beans. In relevant cases, we will investigate coffee shops in the vicinity of the hotel and let you know a good one.
The Medal System
If you are busy and don’t have time to read our full review, we include a medal system:
Bronze - solid 5-star property with good facilities
Silver - outstanding 5-star property that features excellence in several categories
Gold - preeminent 5-star property of distinction
Occasionally we include hotels that, while they do not achieve a medal, they nevertheless merit mention in The Carey List.
At The Carey List, we guarantee that all opinions provided are derived from human-experienced stays and are human-written.
About our Founder
The Carey List was created by Peter Carey, an entrepreneur who has founded several businesses and is the author of Freedom Entrepreneur. Peter enjoys travelling and values the opportunities it provides to learn about different cultures, to attend a variety of events and to encounter new perspectives and ways of thinking.
